MADISON - Producers scrambling to replace hay lost to harsh spring
weather are looking to import hay from farmers in other states, says Ben
Brancel, Wisconsin State Executive Director.  Brancel says producers
looking to buy can go online to find sellers with the kind of hay they
need.

Many Wisconsin farmers are reporting severe damage to alfalfa this
spring, a key crop for Wisconsin's dairy industry.

Brancel says USDA's Haynet website, listing hay buyers and sellers, was
developed as a means for farmers to help farmers, and is a great tool
for getting hay to where it's needed.

"This will help farmers and ranchers without enough hay to get the hay
they need to feed their livestock," says Brancel.  "I encourage everyone
to participate."

USDA Haynet ads include the type of hay and lot size available, along
with contact information for the person selling or in need of hay.  To
post an ad to announce the availability of hay, or to find out what's
available, visit the USDA's Hay Net Website at:
http://www.fsa.usda.gov/haynet/

The Upper Midwest Haylist is another online resource, sponsored by
Midwestern University Extension Services.  This website also is a
self-service tool that enables buyers and sellers of hay in the U.S. and
Canada to announce and search for available or needed hay lots.

There is no charge to list hay or to search hay listings, and lots are
not required to be located within the sponsoring states. Lots listed on
the Upper Midwest Haylist remain in the system for 60 days.  The self
service tool can be found at: http://www.haylist.umn.edu/index.asp
